Desirable Body is a group exhibition curated by Melanie Pocock (Curator, Ikon, Birmingham) for Hanover Project at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan). Inspired by writer Hubert Haddad’s novel Desirable Body (2015), it presents works by four women artists which explore how bodily consciousness and the self are shaped by our desire for, and contact with, other bodies.

Our Story

Hanover Project is a brand new contemporary art gallery in the Hanover building at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan). The space, run by a steering group comprising Fine Art students, is open to members of the public, staff and students from 9 am – 5 pm Monday to Friday.

The gallery presents students with an opportunity to work alongside professional artists. It provides live-work experiences, promotes networking, and engages students in their chosen field. Exhibiting artists have so far given presentations, coordinated film screenings led workshops and arranged performance events for students, staff and members of the public to enjoy and participate in. Students have been eager to volunteer as gallery invigilators and installation assistants, providing them with the valuable skills and knowledge needed for their future careers as arts professionals.
